Suspect In Home Invasion Leaves βTipβ For MPD
Police in Memphis, Tennessee, say that they have received a highly unusual tip in a crime.
A suspected home-invasion robber left behind his fingertip.
They say that on November 5, two suspects armed with a handgun beat down the front door of a home in the 3000 block of Dothan.
The owner of the house says that he and seven other people were inside sleeping when the suspects demanded valuables, namely money and jewelery.
One suspect then proceeded to beat the homeowner with a pistol, but the homeowner fought back, with a machete that he kept under his sofa.
As shots were fired by the suspect, the homeowner swung the machete at his trigger finger.
The suspect fled the house, minus the tip of his index finger.
Police scanned the severed digit.
That print pointed them to the owner of that finger who had a criminal record and now they know his identity.
We ask the public to send us tips on cases all the time and this is one of the first times I can remember getting a tip of this nature in a case,β said Lt. Mickey Williams of the Memphis Police Department.
No one inside the house was hurt, although the suspect several shots.
Police are withholding the names of the suspects.
